Dynamic cross-sells show customers products priced exactly right to push them over your free shipping or gift-with-purchase threshold — automatically adjusting based on how much they already have in their cart, with no code required.
🧠 Pro Tip: Sort your price-range collections lowest price first — that way, if a customer is right on the edge of your threshold, they’ll see the cheapest option that still gets them there.
🛠️ How to Set It Up
Step 1: Map your price ranges (in Shopify)
Review your free shipping or gift-with-purchase threshold and figure out the price gaps customers are likely to need filled (e.g. a $125 threshold means someone with a $100 item needs $25+ more; someone with a $60 item needs $65+ more).
In Shopify, create automatic (smart) collections for each price range you’ve identified — e.g. a “$25–$50” collection and a “$50–$100” collection, using best-sellers or whichever products you want to promote.
Set each collection’s sort order to lowest price first, so customers right on the edge of the threshold see the cheapest qualifying option. (You can also sort by highest price or best-selling if you prefer.)
Step 2: Build the cross-sell blocks (in Unicorn)
Create a new cross-sell block for your first price range.
Set the product targeting to Collection, and select the matching price-range collection you created in Shopify (e.g. $25–$50). Products already in the cart are excluded by default.
Update the block title to make the offer obvious to the customer — e.g. “Add one of these bestsellers and get free shipping.”
Scroll to Block Targeting and set a Cart Total Value show condition so this block only appears in the relevant price gap — e.g. show when cart total is Less Than your threshold (125) and Greater Than the lower bound of this range (100).
Duplicate this block to create your next price-range cross-sell. Rename it (e.g. “$50–$100 Price Range”), swap in the matching collection, and adjust the Cart Total Value conditions for that range (e.g. Less Than 100, Greater Than 60).
Optionally, change the title background color or styling on each block so they’re visually distinct in testing.
Repeat for as many price-range tiers as you need, based on your product spread.
Each block will now only show when the cart total falls within its specific range — so customers always see cross-sells priced to realistically get them to your threshold, no matter what they’ve already added.
