How to Add an Upgrade to Subscription Offer in the Cart

Turn one-time purchases into regular subscribers, for that sweet returning revenue.

The Subscription Upsell block uses your existing subscription app to offer customers the option to switch to a subscription, right in the cart, if they've only selected a one-time purchase — a simple way to catch subscription revenue you might otherwise miss.

🛠️ How to Set It Up

  1. Go to Cart Blocks > Items.

  2. Scroll down to the Item Specific Blocks section.

  3. Click Add Block and select Subscription Upsell.

The Subscription Upsell block will only show on items where a subscription option is actually available — no targeting setup needed, since it won't display on items where it's not relevant.

  1. Click into the block and scroll to Subscribe Settings.

  2. Choose how the upsell displays: Box, Button, or Link. Box is the most commonly used option.

  3. Choose how customers select their subscription:

    • Pop-up — clicking the upsell opens a pop-up where the customer picks a subscription option and adds it to cart.

    • Drop-down — the customer selects the subscription directly within the box itself.

  4. Set Box Visibility: Expandable or Visible, depending on the size and prominence you want in the cart.

  5. Set the Action Type: Link or Button, for the actual call-to-action element.

  6. Scroll to Styling Settings to customize colors for text, tags, and backgrounds to match your brand.

  7. Check Hide When Subscribed if you want the upsell box to disappear once a customer switches to a subscription. Leave it unchecked if you want to give them the option to downgrade back to a one-time purchase later.

  8. If you selected Pop-up, scroll to Subscribe Pop-up Settings to customize the pop-up's text, whether the discount amount is shown, colors, and button styling.

A box with drop-down and button tends to communicate the offer most clearly if you're actively pushing subscriptions; a button with pop-up is a more subtle option if you'd rather keep it low-key.
