Your Post Sale Hangover Cure Cart - Part 1

Updated over a week ago

Your "End of Year Sale" might be over, but December is full of buying intent as your customers are gifting, upgrading, last-minute shopping and treating themselves.

This is the moment to get creative with offers that add excitement, urgency and delight without relying on blanket discounts or sale messaging.

Here are the smartest ways to do exactly that and keep that profit high in Q4!

🛍️ 1. Add New Arrivals Into Cross-Sells

Include your new arrivals in your cross-sell block, to showcase more of ‘what’s new’ to customers with high purchase intent. This is a way of keeping your cart recommendations feeling fresh and dynamic - as well as focusing customers on what’s new!

How to set this up:

We generally advise brands to use Shopify recommendations as these use AI to make the best suggestions.

  • You can easily customise Shopify recommendations, by setting new arrivals in complementary items to your best-sellers

  • If you're using the Specific products option in Unicorn, then it's super easy to search your products and manually set new arrivals at the top of your selected cross-sells.

🎄 2. X Days of Deals (Think: “12 Days of Christmas”)

Keep the buzz alive with daily or rotating cart offers.

For example, you could set up a new cart (or new add to unlock deal' for each day - think “12 Days of Christmas” or “7 Days of Surprises.”

From free gifts, spend and save, to limited-time bundles, you can automate daily offers that change seamlessly, keeping shoppers curious and coming back.

How to set this up:

  • Create ‘hidden’ add to unlock blocks with your daily deals and edit the name for the day you’ll be running that promo.

  • Make them live on the day then hide again when the deal is over!

  • You can also use the 'banner' block to highlight what the deal of the day is.

OR

  • Duplicate your cart and setup multiple carts with each offer in.

  • Schedule each cart to start/end for each 'deal' day- so you can be hands off during this process of offers going live.

💳 3. GWP of Gift Card

You’ve just done an epic GWP for your sale, so how can you top that?!

The Gift Card GWP is an easy (stock free!) solution to offering a GWP post sale, which will also get customers purchasing again in the new year.

Reward your top spenders with a free gift card (e.g. “Spend $200, get a free $50 gift card”) to bring them back after the holidays.

How to set this up:

  • First, create a ‘gift card product’ with your chosen gift card value.

  • Then make an automatic Buy X Get Y discount with your chosen offer.

  • Navigate to Unicorn and setup the Buy X Get Y reward for the gift card.

This is a great incentive that will drive both higher AOV and retention.

🚀 4. Add-to-Unlock for Exclusive New Drops

Build hype like a streetwear launch.

Set cart goals that unlock an exclusive product or limited-edition item when customers hit a spend threshold.

“Spend $150+ to unlock our New Drop Hoodie before it goes public.”

Simple to set up - and even better for teasing new lines.

How to set this up:

  • Either create an 'unlisted' product or make your new drop an 'active' product but on a PDP that doesn’t have it’s ‘add to cart’ button visible

  • Set up Buy X Get Y reward for cart value (with a 10% discount - you have to set a discount between 1 - 100%, so if you don't want to offer 10% off you could just choose 1% and hide the discount tag in your Items settings)

  • When the threshold is reached, customers can see your new product pop-up and choose a variant

  • The item can auto-add to cart if it’s just one variant

⏰ 5. Countdown to Guaranteed Christmas Delivery

Urgency doesn’t have to mean discounts or offers expiring. In December, people are buying presents - so let them know when they have to buy to guarantee delivery in time for Christmas!

How to set this up:

  • Using the ‘Banner’ block, Add a countdown banner to your cart to remind shoppers of your final order date for guaranteed Christmas delivery.

  • “Order in the next 2 days for delivery before Christmas!”

  • Tip: Use "Date time" countdown type to show the number of days and expire your countdown at the shipping cut-off date.

It’s clear, effective, and drives conversions without undercutting your pricing.
