If you’re running a gift with purchase during a sitewide sale that uses an automatic discount, you’ll need to check your discount combinations in Shopify so the sale discount and the free gift both apply at checkout.
🧠 Pro Tip: Do this check even if your gift is only a mid-sale offer and not running for the whole sale. If a free gift is live at any point, the sitewide discount needs to be set to combine.
🛠️ How to Set It Up
In your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.
Open your sitewide automatic discount (e.g. 20% off all products).
Scroll near the bottom to the Combinations section.
Check Product discounts so this discount can combine with them.
Click Save.
Shopify automatic discounts don’t combine with anything by default. Unicorn sets up free gift rewards as a product discount, so your sitewide discount has to be set to combine with product discounts for both to apply.
If you’re using an app that changes your prices and applies a sale price to your products instead, you should be fine and don’t need to make this change.
